Well… the holidays are over and it’s time to get back to a bit more of a normal routine. With Christmas and New Years behind us, weekly gatherings and celebrations have disappeared from the calendar and everyone seems to have hustled and bustled back into daily life. There can be a bit of a letdown when all the festivities die down and people start making all those serious and restrictive new years resolutions. So, to keep things optimistic and a bit more care-free, we kicked off the first weekend of the new year with a day trip to the beach.
Wanting to spend time as a family, we searched online for some dog-friendly beaches up in the Malibu area – as you can’t go wrong with a cruise up the PCH on a sunny Sunday afternoon. After packing a blanket and our Italian Greyhound, Dante, we headed up the coast to Leo Carrillo State Beach, a few miles north of Malibu. A portion of the beach allows dogs “on leash” but since it was January – and not very busy – we weren’t the only ones to let our dog romp around and enjoy running leash-free with the few other dogs there. We realized that despite having lived in Barcelona previously, Dante had never actually had a proper beach day, and he seemed to enjoy every minute of it! In between chasing seagulls and running with furry friends, he snoozed & sun bathed on the blanket and took in the sites & fresh air… seemingly, appreciating it as much as we were.
Our one oversight was not packing a full-on picnic. Although it was a gorgeous day (in January!), you never know what you’re going to get weather-wise over and up on the coast, so we weren’t sure how long we would stay. Lesson learned – the beach is gorgeous and relaxing (especially with barely anyone there). So next time, we will be better prepared with provisions and a few good books & magazines to settle in for the afternoon… who knows, maybe even waiting around to toast the sunset with a glass of wine. Sounds like a perfect Sunday to me.
Until next time…
